About Canyon Arts

Canyon Arts is a small art program in the hills of Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. Classes are held in the woods of a private residence, amidst birdsong, native oaks, and music that was born in the echoes of the canyon.

Students try new materials and techniques, push past mistakes, and take thoughtful risks. Using humble materials that are often recycled or found, they produce heirloom-worthy keepsakes destined to become family treasures. Hand woven baskets, shrunken apple head dolls, and hammer-and-nailed bug hotels are recent projects that sparked joy, built confidence, and let students get lost in the act of making.

Canyon Arts was founded by Laurel Canyon artist, resident and parent Tessa Braun, who believes that art class is one of childhood's great gifts, and that making things by hand nourishes the soul. Canyon Arts exists to share that with the community.
